Basketball and volleyball were invented at the YMCA. In addition, softball and racquetball began with programs at the YMCA.
The YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne encourages family involvement under the leadership of caring and dedicated staff and volunteers. Participants learn the value of participating in team sports, including why teamwork is critical in life and how to be respectful of coaches, officials and teammates. Group sports at the Y foster an understanding that having fun and making friends is the goal of team sports.
