A YMCA Playscape Fundraiser at the Old Barn aims to raise funds to build a new natural Playscape at the Parkview Family YMCA.

Fort Wayne, IN May 22, 2019—In an effort to encourage area kids to abandon their electronic devices in favor of outdoor play, the Parkview Family YMCA Board has committed to building a new natural playscape on the YMCA’s Dawson Creek property. The playscape will promote imagination and creativity, provide a safe place for unstructured play and encourage interaction with nature.

The cost for the project is estimated at $100,000 and groundbreaking will commence once 80% of funds have been secured. The playscape will be available to all children in the community at no cost; a YMCA membership will not be required.

"We are concerned about children spending more time with electronics and not enough time outdoors," said Marcy Rogers, Chair of the Parkview Family YMCA Board. "We want to create a space at the Y where kids can go outside and play."

The YMCA Playscape Fundraiser, sponsored by Parkview Health, will be held in the Old Barn at Salomon Farm Park on Friday, June 7th, 2019 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm. This adult event is casual and includes dinner, entertainment by the Agen Family Trio featuring Addison Agen (finalist on NBC's "The Voice"), beer and wine (cash bar for cocktails) and a silent auction.

Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance online at fwymca.cheerfulgiving.com/p/playscape or by calling 260-755-4845. For those unable to attend the event, but interested in supporting the project, donations can be made inside the Parkview Family YMCA or online at fwymca.org.
