The southwest community of Fort Wayne has been blessed by the generosity of Ove W. Jorgensen.

Ove was committed to impacting the communities in which he lived and when he was approached about supporting the idea of a YMCA in the Aboite Township area, he graciously donated the funds to start the Jorgensen YMCA which operated out of the old Aboite Elementary school from 1998 to 2003. The original goal was to utilize that space for 10 years and then grow into a full-service YMCA. Because of the success of the Jorgensen YMCA, Ove urged the YMCA board and administrators to move up the timeline from 10 years.

Besides being recognized as the founder of the Jorgensen YMCA, Ove also served on the board of directors for Junior Achievement for nearly 40 years and was board chairman of the Junior Achievement Foundation, which honored him with the creation of the Ove Jorgensen Spirit of Leadership award. He was also recognized as Who's Who in America.
