Our inclusive programs are for individuals with and without diverse abilities to participate in activities and classes together. With the Y's mission to be for all, we believe we are stronger and better when we are together.
Sensory Friendly Programs
Our sensory friendly programs focus on providing inclusive events for people of all abilities, while being aware of sensitivities to various stimuli. Examples of our events include sensory friendly splash pad & aquatics, baking, arts and crafting.
We offer inclusive wellness opportunities, including Bang the Drum*, SNAP (Special Needs Aquatic Playtime) and pom/cheer.
*Bang The Drum combines traditional aerobic movements with the powerful beat and rhythm of the drums. Participants are able to engage their whole mind and body in this lively class.
Note: SNAP & pom/cheer programs are offered seasonally.
Inclusion Camp & Parents Night Out
Inclusion camp* and Parents Night Out provide campers of all abilities with the opportunity to participate in planned activities, such as gym games, art projects, song singing, and outside play.
*Camps at our Caylor-Nickel Foundation Family YMCA are run during winter, spring, summer and fall breaks.
Trail Buddies (Adaptive Bike Riding program for all ages)
Trail Buddies invites people who have a disability or who are unable to pedal a bike independently to go for a ride in the fresh air using our specialized bike, known as a Duet Bike. This free, inclusive program allows children and adults to be pedaled by caring, trained volunteers with our specialized bike. Trail Buddies is available to those of all ages.
To get involved, contact Rebekah Coffey, Director of Adaptive Services, at firstname.lastname@example.org or (260) 755-4961.
Note: This program runs May 1st-October 31st (weather permitting).
